Label AI images: add the EU AI icon for free
The European Commission provides a shared icon system for AI-generated and AI-modified content. Our free tool embeds the visible label into JPG, PNG and HEIC images locally.

Three icons with different meanings
The basic AI symbol indicates an AI connection. “AI generated” is intended for fully generated content, while “AI modified” describes existing content substantially changed with AI. The Commission provides light, dark and transparent versions.
An accurate choice matters more than a conspicuous label. The visible statement should match how the image was created, while size, contrast and placement should remain readable in small formats.
What Article 50 actually covers
Article 50 of the EU AI Act defines transparency duties for certain generated or manipulated content. These include provider duties concerning machine-readable detection and deployer disclosures for deepfakes and certain public-interest text.
The rules apply from 2 August 2026 but do not automatically cover every AI image. The EU icons are optional aids. A visible icon alone does not guarantee compliance or replace required machine-readable marking and a legal assessment of the specific use.
Add the label without uploading the image
The dashdesign; tool keeps the file on the device. JavaScript reads the image in the browser, draws the selected official SVG onto a preview and exports the result as JPG or PNG. HEIC and HEIF are converted locally too.
After choosing AI Generated or AI Modified, users can select automatic, light or dark styling and adjust size and opacity. The label can be dragged freely or placed precisely in any of the four corners. The download can optionally append “_AI” to the filename.
